about dr mel

I trained initially as a teacher before I became interested in counselling. However, my professional and personal experiences have motivated me to be a counsellor. I am a fully registered teacher and a member of the New Zealand Association of Counsellors. I am also a registered counsellor for Gumboot Friday. I trained as an Interactive Drawing Therapist (IDT) and held an advanced IDT certificate. I also trained as a Dream Therapist.

I am extensively interested in giftedness and twice-exceptionality and researching this through a holistic approach. I hold a PhD from the University of Canterbury, a Master of Education from the University of Waikato, a Master of Counselling and a Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling Theory from the University of Auckland, a Graduate Certificate in Cross-Cultural Supervision from Manukau Institute of Technology.

the path to resilience

One moment, you’re up; the next, you’re down. Emotional pain and sadness are common simply because we are human and have feelings. Don’t let your negative feelings decide your future and who you are as a person. Working together, we can develop some strategies to build up your resilience and let life surprise you!!

I am particularly interested in working with people who are living with intensity, sensitivity, overexcitability, and challenges of being gifted and/or have children or family members who are gifted.

more importantly, work together

to celebrate individual learning differences and the quirky mind, whatever life throws at you.
